Week 7: Evaluation
and Assessment
Use in the Classroom: I would have students engage in
a project based learning activity that involves the solar system. Students
would research myths about the solar system and create a poster, presentation,
video or display to communicate what they learned. The driving question would
be, “what myths about our solar system exist and how can we prove them right or
wrong?”

product that explains a common myth about our solar system.

It would be geared towards a PBL approach because students
are going to be working to create artifacts for a museum. Students would be
both completing researching and experiments to help guide them to their final artifact.
Since I have never completed a “true” project based learning
activity, I would definitely need to do more research and make sure I was
following all of the guidelines. My students have Chromebooks, but often need
guidance on how to research topics. We would also need to spend time on how to
cite the information that they would be finding.
Application
I think that using EdPuzzle this week aligns with the
Temporal Contiguity principle. Students are able to view graphics and listen
while learning about a concept. I love how I can ask questions in the video to
really assess students’ knowledge.
Reflection
I think that Project Based Learning would really benefit my
students. I often try to make our learning and activities relate to real world
experiences. I think that this would help me take this to the next level.
I have used many of the evaluation and assessment tools
before! My students love Kahoot. I often use it as a pre-assessment and then
again to review before a test. Since students are very competitive and it is
more rushed, I tend to use it more formatively. Our District Tech Ed
coordinator had us create EdPuzzle accounts, but this is my first time creating
my own.
I really enjoyed the articles about Project Based Learning.
I really want to put more planning into creating an activity for my students to
use this fall. I think this has helped me grow by thinking about how new
experience can help my students.

Artifacts
Below you can find the EDpuzzle I created to support
students in learning about the phases of the moon. This would be one of the
activities students would complete during the PBL unit.
Since this will be my first time rolling out a project based
learning unit, I would have students complete a survey to see their feelings
and reflections. You can access it below.
